1.

DESTINATION WEDDING LOCATION

Choose where and when.

Your destination wedding can be at a location that’s meaningful to you or you could choose somewhere completely new you’d like to explore.

Either way, once you’ve got your location you’ll need to choose a date so be sure to consider the local weather.

2.

DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Time passes faster than you think, your wedding will be over in the blink of an eye and your loved ones won’t be here forever. You want photos that capture the connection between people and the essence your day.

Book a destination wedding photographer who can capture the essence of your wedding in a natural, effortless way and who can make everyone feel comfortable.

To give each of my couples the wedding experience the deserve, I only book 20 weddings per year so don’t snooze!

HOW TO PLAN A

DESTINATION WEDDING

3.

CONSIDER YOUR GUESTS

Think about your guests and the logistics of a destination wedding.

For example, depending on how many guests you’d like to invite, make sure you choose a location that can host everyone.

Also consider how the local weather might affect your guests. Do you need to select a ceremony location with shade? Do you need to make sure you provide water for everyone when it’s extra hot? Or blankets if it’s going to be cold?

4.

VISIT AHEAD OF TIME

Whether it’s in the wilderness or at a dedicated wedding venue, make sure you visit before booking.

Having a destination wedding is a great excuse to go travelling so make the most of it!

Take this opportunity to explore the surrounding areas and see if there are any unusual or beautiful places that you could use as a backdrop for your wedding photos or a pre-wedding session.

5.

WORK WITH A PRO

Book a wedding planner who specialises in destination weddings.

Hiring a wedding planner or on-the-day coordinator is always a good idea, even when getting married at home but it will save you even more time and energy if you’re planning your wedding from across the globe.

Do your research before visiting your wedding location for the first time and schedule appointments with different wedding vendors so that you can meet them in person before making your decision.

DESTINATION WEDDING PRO TIP:

CONSIDER THE LIGHT

For destination weddings it’s even more important to consider the light on your wedding day.

Be sure to check sunrise and sunset times by doing a quick Google search or downloading an app. Also check golden hour time because that’s the best light for photos since it’s soft and golden.

When planning your timeline, make sure you keep those in mind and make time for photos at golden hour, you won’t regret it.

6.

CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING OUTFITS CAREFULLY

Consider the general vibe of your wedding venue and location but also, the weather!

A tweed suit might be a really good idea for an April wedding in England but not so much for an August wedding in Spain.Likewise, lighter and breathable fabric for your wedding dress might be more comfortable.

7.

TAKE YOUR WEDDING OUTFITS AS CARRY ONS

Take your wedding outfits as carry-ons. Never, never – I can’t stress this enough – never put your wedding outfits in your checked luggage.

Of all the things that you might be taking in your suitcase for the wedding, your outfits are probably the most expensive and the most important but also the one thing you won’t be able to replace once you reach your destination.

8.

MAKE YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

Destination weddings usually have smaller guest lists and this means it’s easier to find a wedding venue that you can also stay at.

Having everyone share a few days together before and after the wedding will make it even more memorable and it will give you more opportunities to spend quality time with your loved ones.

You can also research fun activities to do as a group and explore the area.
