Your wedding day will go by in a blur but your wedding photos will keep those memories alive. Long after you’ve flown back home, the adventure is over, you’ve packed away your wedding outfits and many years after your loved ones are gone your wedding photos will remain.
You want beautiful, natural photos that tell the story of your day and capture the essence of your destination wedding.

WHY HAVE A DESTINATION WEDDING?
Destination weddings are less traditional by nature which gives you all the freedom to do exactly what you want: Your wedding your way!
If you’re thinking of getting married abroad, chances are you’re looking to create an immersive wedding experience for you and your guests and perhaps make it a weekend event. Destination weddings have an extra special vibe because the minute your guests get off the plane they go into “holiday mode” and they all feel more relaxed.

The legalities of getting married abroad:
Most couples planning a destination wedding usually hold a symbolic ceremony on their wedding day and get legally married in their home country beforehand. This is because the legalities of getting married abroad can be a little complicated and time-consuming.
In Spain and France for example you’ll need to present a certificate of residence as well as the rest of the paperwork. Not all European countries recognise same-sex marriage so that’s something else to look into.
Here’s a quick list of the paperwork you will need but keep in mind this will vary from country to country and will also depend on your circumstances:
- Valid passports
- Original birth certificates
- Certificate of capacity to marry
- Certificate of residence
- Divorce certificate
It’s also likely that all your documents will need to be translated, authenticated and bear an Apostille Stamp. The Apostille (from The Hague Convention) is an official government-issued certificate added to documents so they will be recognised and have legal validity in another country.

Think about your guests and the logistics of a destination wedding. For example, depending on how many guests you’d like to invite, make sure you choose a location that can host everyone.

VISIT AHEAD OF THE WEDDING
Whether it’s in the wilderness or at a dedicated wedding venue, make sure you visit before booking. Having a destination wedding is a great excuse to go travelling!

BOOK A DESTINATION WEDDING PLANNER
Book a wedding planner who specialises in destination weddings. Hiring a wedding planner or on-the-day coordinator is always a good idea, even when getting married at home but it will save you even more time and energy if you’re planning your wedding from across the globe.

MEET WITH YOUR LOCAL VENDORS
Do your research before visiting your wedding location for the first time and schedule appointments with the vendors whose work you like. You can always book a video call if you’re left with questions or haven’t quite made your decision after meeting them face to face.

CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING OUTFITS
Consider the general vibe of your wedding venue or location but also, the weather. A tweed suit might be a really good idea for a wedding in England but not so much for an August wedding in Spain. Likewise, lighter and breathable fabric for your wedding dress might be more comfortable.
